Here you’ll find more than 400 photographs mostly from the late 1960s and early 1970s, a time when it was great to be young. Most of the photos were shot in the San Francisco area.
I returned from Viet Nam in 1968 and found myself in the epicenter of hippydom, flower power, anti-war protests, and new music and culture. I thought it was important to preserve this in photographs, and 195 of the images here cover these subjects.
Meanwhile, I also photographed less sensational aspects of everyday life in the Bay Area. 71 of the images here are in this category.
Eventually, I met the band The Tubes, which enjoyed a meteoric flash of popularity. I became a photographer groupie, recording their humor and originality. Here are 200 images of them both on and off stage between 1972 and 1978.
All the photographs are black and white.
Many of my 1960s photographs are in my book “The Tri-X Chronicles.”
